Project Overview
This opening sequence was created to introduce MIRAGE through a dark, atmospheric, and enigmatic visual experience.
The goal was to establish tone and tension from the very beginning, using symbolism, motion, and sound to immerse the viewer in a world that feels unsettling, mysterious, and difficult to fully grasp.
Creative Direction
DESIGN
• Symbolic Composition: Using objects like a skull, lantern, and VHS tape to suggest deeper narrative meaning.
• Dark Atmosphere: Building a somber and unsettling tone through color, lighting, and environment.
• Glass Materiality: Transforming all elements into glass to create a surreal and fragile visual identity.
• Endless Motion: Designing continuous wave-like movement to evoke instability and tension.
Execution Approach
The scene was entirely developed in Blender using large-scale simulation techniques to achieve aggressive, continuous wave motion.
Black sand was used as the foundation, constantly shifting and flowing to create a sense of unease and unpredictability. The objects were carefully placed and partially submerged, reinforcing the idea of something lost, hidden, or being consumed.
The overall composition was enhanced with subtle color grading and visual effects, leaning into cold blue and gray tones to intensify the dark and immersive atmosphere.

From Concept to Execution
The concept centered around creating an opening that communicates mood and meaning without relying on explicit narrative.
Instead of explaining the world of MIRAGE, the sequence hints at it, using visual symbolism and environmental storytelling to provoke curiosity and interpretation.
Creative Challenges
PROCESS
One of the main challenges was achieving a simulation that felt both natural and unsettling, maintaining constant motion without becoming repetitive or predictable.
Balancing the behavior of the sand, the interaction with the objects, and the overall composition required extensive iteration and fine-tuning within Blender.
Additionally, synchronizing the visuals with the soundtrack was essential. Each beat at the beginning of the sequence was carefully aligned with the appearance of names, creating a rhythmic and slightly disorienting effect that reinforces the tone of the project.

The Final Result
The final result delivers a striking and atmospheric opening that immediately sets the tone for MIRAGE.
Through a combination of symbolic elements, continuous motion, and precise audio-visual synchronization, the sequence creates a sense of tension and intrigue from the very first moments.
